CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. — The Swanton Sector Border Patrol will soon have a new station to call home in Champlain.
The sector broke ground on a new 36,000 foot facility last week, with agents holding a ceremony commemorating the beginning of construction.
The new facility is designed to house 50 agents and support staff, and will replace the current station on Ridge Road. Officials said the current station was built more than 30 years ago was only designed to accommodate 15 agents.

The station will house agents who monitor a 29-mile long swath of the northern U.S.-Canadian border that stretches from the New York/Vermont border to Churubusco, New York.
The Swanton Sector also reported a record number of apprehensions in the past ten months, with more than 5,400 apprehensions.
New York Congresswomen Elise Stefanik shared her support for the new facility in a statement to NBC5:
“The groundbreaking of the new border patrol station in Champlain, New York is critical to ensuring our brave agents who protect our Northern Border have the resources and facilities needed.”
The new facility is expected to be completed by August 2025, according to officials.
