GLENS FALLS, NY– Yesterday, Upstate New Yorkers and North County voters learned thatinflation surged again in Septemberandthat the surge was fueled by Joe Biden and House Democrats’ Inflation Expansion Act, which Far Left Downstate Democrat from Poughkeepsie Matt Castelli fully supported and applauded.
Senior Advisor to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, Alex DeGrasse, stated:
“Far Left Downstate Democrat from Poughkeepsie Matt Castelli fully supported the disastrous Inflation Expansion Act, which we learned yesterday caused inflation to continue to surge in September. This is precisely what experts said would happen if the Inflation Expansion Act was passed. Still, this Far Left Downstate Democrat from Poughkeepsie rejected those warnings and went along in lockstep with Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi in support of this bill. Decisions like this prove what Upstate New York and North Country voters have known all along that this Far Left Downstate Democrat from Poughkeepsie will be a rubber stamp for Biden and Pelosi’s radical agenda. In the middle of a recession where the cost of everyday goods continue to skyrocket, Upstate New York and North Country families can’t afford to have a representative who will be a rubber stamp for Biden and Pelosi. They deserve a representative who will introduce real solutions to rein in inflation and that is exactly what Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has done and why she will be victorious this November.
Far Left Downstate Democrat from Poughkeepsie Matt Castelli Supported the Inflation Expansion Act Despite The Warnings:
In a July 28, 2022 statement, Castelli said he was “pleased” with the Inflation Expansion Act, and falsely it would “help fight inflation and lower costs for American families.”
- The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reported that the “Inflation Expansion Act” will haveno impact on reducing inflation– economists with thePenn Wharton Budget Modelalso came to a similar conclusion.
In a July 28, 2022 statement, Castelli falsely claimed that the Inflation Expansion Act ensured that “taxes are not raised on middle-class and working families.”
- The CBO also found the “Inflation Expansion Act” will cost middle-class Americans and small businesses $20 Billion in new taxes.
- The New York Postreported that “an analysis by the CBO estimates those earning less than $400,000— the group on which Biden promised not to raise taxes —will pay an estimated $20 billion more in taxes over the next decade as a result of the Democrat-pushed $740 billion package, which also sets aside $80 billion to hire 87,000 IRS agents.
Castelli has continued to double down on his false claim that the Inflation Expansion Act would reduce inflation.
- Castelli tweeted on August 5, 2022: “The Inflation ‘Expansion’ Act deal will cut prescription drug costs for seniors, reduce inflation, and make historic investments in clean energy.”
In an August 15, 2022, interview withThe Morning Drive, Castelli was confronted about the fact that the Inflation Expansion Act does not reduce inflation. Castelli again doubled down, claiming the bill sounded “like a net win.”
In September Castelli “applauded” the 87,000 new IRS agents that the Inflation Expansion Act created to target middle-class Americans.
