Glens Falls, NY: Elise for Congress today challenged retired Army Colonel and Colorado Republican turned Democrat Mike Derrick to answer the following yes or no question regarding the Obama Administration’s intent to transfer terrorist detainees from Guantanamo Bay to American soil:

“Colorado Republican turned newly minted Democrat Mike Derrick is solely running on his previous military service.  Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on, and passed, bipartisan legislation that would ban the transfer of terrorist detainees at Guantanamo to U.S. soil.  Mike Derrick, stop hiding and tell North Country voters – would you have voted yes, or no on this vital legislation?”

BACKGROUND:

The U.S. House of Representatives today voted on, and subsequently passed, H.R. 5351, legislation co-sponsored by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, which would temporarily prohibit any funds from being used to transfer or release an individual detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to the United States or a foreign country until the end of the year or enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2017.  The bipartisan legislation passed by a margin of 244-174.
